The Research Technician II supports team-based research in
nutritional immunology and metabolic processes. The position
requires demonstrated abilities in handling small animals including
feeding, weighing, immune treatments and biosample collection. The
position also requires experience in independently conducting
laboratory analysis including quantitative and computer skills, and
abilities to use laboratory equipment for immune function and
molecular assays and metabolite analyses. The successful applicant
will have shared responsibilities for maintaining laboratory
inventories and regulatory compliance. Responsibilities: 25%
Handles and administers diets, antigens, and immune response
modifiers to small animals, and with additional training and
supervision is able to work with young swine. 25% Works as a team
member and independently on molecular and immune function assays
related to nutrient-regulated processes; conducts precise benchwork
and data analysis, uses cell culture- and molecular-based
techniques. 20% Assists with Biosafety, Chemical inventory, lab
item receipt and inventory, and safety activities necessary to
maintain laboratory organization, accreditation, BSL-2 status, and
related permits. 10% Assist with writing Standard Operating
Procedures (SOPs) for laboratory methods and reports for regulatory
compliance. 10% Upon specific training, assists with supervision
and training of other laboratory personnel including students. 10%
Performs other duties as assigned. Required Education and
Experience: -High school diploma or equivalent combination of
education and experience. -Three years of relevant laboratory based
research experience. Preferred Education and Experience:
-Bachelor's degree in relevant field - Experience in a
biology/biochemistgry/immunology/genetics research laboratory
either before or after graduation. -Experience handling and
managing small animals for research, such as genotyping, blood
collection, dissections. -Experience working in a biochemistry or
immunology-focused laboratory in both supervised and independent
activities. -Experience with analysis using flow cyotmetry, PCR,
and/or HPLC or mass spec instrumentation. Required Knowledge,
Skills and Abilities: -Ability to multitask and work cooperatively
with others. -Strong communication skills and collaborative,
cooperative, reliable work habits. Preferred Knowledge, Skills and
Abilities: -Knowledge of computer programs for gene/genomic
databases searching and analysis. -Ability to use molecular biology
methods such as promoter analysis. All positions are
