BASIC PURPOSE: The Material Handler ensures smooth material flow during shift by supporting the Material Handling Team on movement of Machine Shop component orders and Sales Order (SO) kits through Machine Shop & Production areas of manufacturing floor. This role interprets MRP information and planning schedule to stage and maintain flow of material to/from CNC machines, through Production assembly cells, and ultimately to Shipping area. This person utilizes strong knowledge of product and assembly methods to make adjustments to production workflow as needed. Addresses material issues, stocks and maintains cell and Kanban inventories, and retrieves needed parts from other departments for direct labor personnel. Provides fill-in support to other Materials Handling department functions as needed due to personnel constraints. MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES OF JOB: Provides support to Material Handling Team (Receiving, Kitting, Production) to facilitate efficient progression of material through manufacturing. Retrieves component orders from Saws and distributes to appropriate CNC machines in Machine Shop. Manages and prioritizes progression of SO kits through Production based on due dates, special requirements or treatments, and/or orders requiring more time for assembly. Pulls stocked parts and customer supplied instruments from inventory and combines with appropriate SO kits. Makes adjustments to material workflow as needed to adapt to schedule and material issues. Stocks and maintains necessary part and Kanban inventories to support manufacturing. Collaborates with Material Handlers to keep all WIP inventory organized. Coordinates with Production Manager to ensure Sales Orders are assembled on time. Communicates with Sales, Machine Shop, Production, and other departments via e-mail or in person to resolve issues. Operates within standard operating procedures (SOPs) and special instructions (SIs). Ensures material availability at workstations. (PTO, KB) Inputs and tracks SO kit location and progression in FileMaker. Prepares materials and documentation for shipment to outside vendor services. Fills in for other Materials Handling department functions (Receiving, Shipping, etc.) as needed due to personnel constraints. Performs ancillary duties as needed. KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS: High School diploma preferred. Basic computer skills required. Understanding of basic problem solving methodologies. Manual dexterity required for operating machinery and computers. Must be able to read Sales Orders, BOMs and drawings. Must have a good knowledge of parts and material. Must be able to work overtime if needed.
