Job Description:

ChampionX is seeking a Lead Chemist located in Sugar Land, TX.  The Lead Chemist will develop and advance technical platforms satisfying both business and customer needs with a focus on Flow Assurance (Asphaltenes).  This position will be responsible for performing and leading research, development and problem solving projects to enable new product and platform development.  The Lead Chemist works closely with other scientists and research groups to design, execute and communicate results

What You Will Do:

  • Develop novel innovations in the area of flow assurance with a focus on asphaltenes

  • Collaborate with other scientists, research groups, and RDE leaders on new development projects and platforms

  • Actively engage in development of new platforms that meet strategic business needs

  • Interpret experimental data and communicate results clearly to peers and project teams in written reports and oral presentations

  • Provide consulting on experimental design, mentoring, and work direction for junior lab scientists.

  • Maintain employee safety standards

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 6 years of R&D experience; OR

  • Master’s Degree and 4 years of R&D experience; OR

  • Ph.D. and 2 years of R&D experience

  • 1 year of experience specializing in asphaltenes

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong problem solving skills

  • Background in Flow Assurance

  • Strong oral and written communication skills

  • 4+ years of experience specializing in asphaltenes

  • Strong understanding of asphaltene test methods

  • Formulation and/or synthesis experience in asphaltene product development

  • Expertise in asphaltene characterization/structure activity relationships

  • Record of publications and/or patents

  • Working knowledge of statistics
