Job Summary: The VP of Marine Operations will drive the technical and operational aspects of Hydra's vessel operations. From an internal perspective, this includes operational oversight of the SubSea Responder fleet. Externally the person will interface with fleet managers for technical management of vessels and lead negotiations with shipyards and other vendors involved in drydocking, conversions, and reactivations. Hydra Employee Responsibilities (must be completed prior to being assigned any Hydra projects):

  • Understand and implement Hydra's Strategic Plan.
  • Understand how to achieve the strategic goals and objectives set forth in Hydra's Strategic Plan.
  • Understand and promote the Vison of Hydra.
  • Understand how this position and how the Manager of Projects specifically fit into Hydra's Organization.
  • Must have read and understand "The Leadership Challenge" by Kouzes & Posner (Required for SLT members).
  • Understand and promote Hydra's ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System and how it works within 90 days of employment.
  • Understand and assist with implementing other "Key Systems and Processes" in place within Hydra (How we operate on a high level).
  • Participate in all SLT monthly meetings as well as all brainstorming sessions, in effort to assist with the growth and the perfection of Hydra's Strategic Plan. VP of Marine Operations Responsibilities:
    • The VP of Marine Operations will drive the technical and operational aspects of Hydra's vessel operations.
    • Perform and maintain operational oversight of Hydra's vessels.
    • Interface with Hydra's senior leadership team for technical management of vessels and lead negotiations with shipyards and other vendors involved in drydocking, conversions, and reactivations.
    • Responsible for Marine Operations and fleet management for Hydra's assets.
    • Lead and develop budgets and manage projects for maintenance, drydocks, reactivations, and conversions in conjunction with the Port Captain, the Port Engineer, the Facilities Manager, and the Buyer/Purchasing Manager.
    • Perform technical evaluations of new opportunities and projects.
    • Responsible for quality, safety, and security to ensure that Hydra's policies and procedures are in place and being applied for safe and environmentally sound vessel operations.
    • Report on technical performance of all vessel maintenance schedules.
    • Collaborate with the VP of Projects on all projects.
    • Supervise estimates and manage major equipment upgrades, overhauls and dry-docks in accordance with company project management procedures.
    • Ensure commissioning plan as laid out by QHSE Manager is in place and executed prior to vessel returning to service and after major maintenance events.
    • Maintain vessel technical management procedures and standards for providing vendor and specialist support, spares inventory, preventative maintenance program, and equipment training, and ensure its implementation.
    • Act as lead during inter-regional vessel movements.
    • Review and assist in incident analysis and accident investigations. Education/Skills:
      • Bachelor of Science (Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, Nautical Science), (MSc preferred).
      • Minimum 10 years of experience with notable progression in Marine Operations.
      • Direct experience with technical aspects of offshore construction and subsea projects.
      • Experience working with shipyards.
      • Direct experience developing budgets and managing projects.
      • History of asset management responsibility.
      • Ability to adapt in a growing, fast-paced, global organization.
      • Excellent communication and leadership skills. Technology Requirements
        • Must be proficient and able to effectively work with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
        • Must be able to work on Mac computers. Training is available upon request.
        • Must understand document control and file sharing procedures, Dropbox, and other online tools. Physical Requirements
          • Must be able to lift 20 lbs.
          • Must be able to climb stairs. VP of Projects Authorities:
            • Stop Work Authority.
            • Authority to initiate corrective and preventive actions and report non-conformities.
            • Authority to close out non-conformities with written report.
            • Authority to initiate and administer the management of change (MOC) process. Office Hours & Travel Requirements
              • Must be able to maintain office hours from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm (permanent flexible hours may be available upon request).
              • Must be able to travel to Port Arthur and other locations throughout United States.
              • Must be able to respond to project needs on a 24/7 basis.
