Job Description Job Description NEW! *Lateral Applicant Incentive Pay up to $2,000 * Residency Requirement is 45-minute response time Summary Supervises employees on the job site and ensures compliance with safety standards; performs electric line construction and maintenance work; performs service calls; schedules maintenance work; assists in the design and construction of electric lines; performs traffic control functions at job sites; and prepares requisitions for department materials, equipment, and supplies. Provides leadership, work assignments, evaluation, training and guidance to departmental personnel. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Supervises employees on the job site, including assigning and reviewing work and training employees in safe electric system construction and maintenance procedures, construction standards, transformer connections, feeders, and location of sectionalizing equipment; Performs electric line construction and maintenance work on energized primary and secondary structures and equipment; Performs service calls, including locating trouble areas and making repairs; Installs and repairs electric poles, including digging holes for new poles, framing poles to required specifications, installing electrical services and connectors, and transferring wires from old to new poles, using bucket to perform duties; Schedules maintenance work on new and existing electric lines; Ensures that all work is done in compliance with established safe operating procedures, including conducting job site and system safety inspections; Coordinates switching of main feeders; Sizes meters and transformers for electric loads; Assists in the design and construction of electric lines; Performs traffic control functions at job sites; Prepares requisitions for department materials, equipment, and supplies; and Monitors loads of substation and main feeders. Supervisory Responsibilities Supervises employees, including assigning and reviewing work, conducting performance reviews, training employees, and making recommendations regarding hiring, promoting, disciplining, and/or dismissing employees. Education and/or Experience High school graduation or its equivalent plus six years of field experience; or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Knowledge Of General management principles; electrical system management principles, practices, procedures, and safety codes; and standard office practices and procedures. Skill/Ability To Maintain and repair electrical systems; establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and the general public; communicate effectively; operate equipment and tools used in maintaining and repairing electrical systems; and read and understand manuals, policies, and other documents. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Valid Texas commercial driver's license (A CDL).
