The Perioperative Resource Nurse collaborates with the director,
managers, ancillary departments, physicians, and vendors to
streamline the functioning of the Operating Room.
The Perioperative Resource Nurse is an Operating Room Nurse who is
an experienced clinician. Functions in a leadership role and acts
as a liaison between ancillary departments, vendors, surgeons and
Operating Room staff. Responsibilities include tailored training
for specific procedures using specialty equipment, associated
instrumentation, evaluation of direct costs, and patient outcomes.
Assists managers with the coordination of scheduling cases and
assists with the overall growth of the OR program. Provides patient
care approximately 20% of the time as an Operating Room Nurse to
assist with providing breaks and lunches for staff.
The Perioperative Resource Nurse is an Operating Room Nurse who as
a senior clinician functions at the Proficient level according to
Benner--s model of clinical practice. The Perioperative Resource
Nurse provides direct patient care as needed and is considered an
expert in a specialty. The Perioperative Resource Nurse assists in
coaching and mentoring department staff in areas of clinical and

Room unit, service line, and across the institution.
Responsibilities may include but are not limited to leading unit
and shared governance activities, serving as charge nurse,
assessing unit needs related to practice and improvement
opportunities, coordinating unit education and serving as a
clinical resource for both unit and hospital staff.

PERIOPERATIVE RESOURCE NURSE ROLE: JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Duties and Responsibilities are cross-referenced to the hospital--s

1.Responsible for training of staff regarding inventory, care and
maintenance of supplies and instrumentation. (EF)
2.Participate in the orientation, education and training of
Operating Room staff as well as making arrangements for case
observation and proctoring of physicians. (EF)

Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing with a Bachelor--s
10 CEU--s annually (5 within specialty)
Five years of Operating Room experience.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED
Credentialed by the Texas Board of Nursing with a current
CPR certification approved by American Heart Association
Magnet Recognized Certification in applicable clinical
SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
Must be able to perform skills and competencies as defined in the
